First Aid for Schools

Aims & Objectives

This new course based on the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work course but geared to dealing with paediatric emergencies from 5-16 years (for 0- 5 please see ofstead course). The candidate will be given the essential skills and confidence to dealing with paediatric first aid in the school environment.

Subjects Covered:

  • Responsibilities and reporting
  • Shock
  • Asthma
  • Basic hygiene in First Aid
  • Head Injurys
  • Seizures
  • Why treat children differantly
  • Resuscitation of the child
  • Control of bleeding
  • Choking
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Minor injuries
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Burns

Courses can be delivered at your site (max 12 candidates)

Courses can be delivered on Saturdays at no extra cost

Course Duration

6 hours excluding breaks

Delivery Technique

This course is delivered via a range of techniques including:

  • Instructor Led Presentation
  • Group Discussion
  • Practical Sessions

The amount of different methods of presentation is flexible to suit the needs of the group.

Course Assessment

There is no formal test at the end of the day but candidates are assessed by the instuctor during the day

Course Certification

All successful attendees will be awarded a certificate valid for 3 years.

We  recommend that candidates undertaken an annual 3 hour refresher every year
